Welcome to our updated website. We’re glad you’re here and we hope this revised site gives whatever help you seek. A primary goal of Disability Awareness continues to be that each congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan be fully accessible, so you will find a detailed listing on this site of various accessibility and awareness topics in the Information for Congregations section. We also want to be helpful and responsive to people with disabilities, so there is a section for People with Disabilities, including information about available assistance. We list Links to various national, state and church groups. You'll find the mission and vision of Disability Awareness in the About Us section.
NEW - We have added a section on Bullying because, as Katie Couric (then of CBS News) reported in early 2011,
"Bullying has become an epidemic in our country," Unfortunately, people with disabilities are often bullying targets. Disability Awareness is working with Oasis, a ministry serving lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered and queer persons, because we share concerns about this problem. In the Bullying section you'll find General Resources and Congregational Resources, along with a Historical Summary. The Episcopal Diocese of Michigan adopted a resolution on Bullying and Its Prevention at its 2010 Annual Convention. We've included a copy of the Resolution and a Sample Letter to Legislators to guide you in contacting state representatives and senators about this issue. We also include a link to the Michigan State Board of Education's Model Anti-Bullying Policy. Finally, we're posting a special Blessing for Those Who Are Bullied.
A listing of upcoming events can be found at www.edomi.org, along with the full range of services offered by the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan.
